Unnayan Project by MOGI MPACS
Issues in the area
- Lack of irrigation in Hilly districts of Uttarakhand 90 % cultivable land gets only 10 % irrigation facility
- Small and Scattered land holding pattern and low soil depth are important factors for low productivity.
- Climatic variance and crop pattern: Heavy rainfall and cold climatic condition agriculture in mountains and hilly region exhibits lots of variance in crop diversity. The crops and cropping pattern of Hilly agriculture varies greatly with altitude.
- Soil of the hilly region specially from zone 2 and zone 3 mostly shallow and coarse in texture which has faced major soil erosion. The soil is also deficient of micronutrients
- More Labor-Intensive work: Draught animals are the most economical source of energy for ploughing and post-harvest activities. The cultivation and farming activities are labor intensive. Women play vital role in hill agriculture.
- High migration rate: Population mostly in hills migrate to other places in search of employment.
